Teacher
Valentin Gyurme was born in Siberia. After language studies at the University of St
Petersburg, he studied Buddhist philosophy, theory of perception and the Tibetan language at
Karmapa International Buddhist Institute (KIBI) in New Delhi, India. Yes
to deepen his understanding and integrate it, he undertook several three-year
meditation retreats at the Buddhist center founded by Gendun Rimpoche in
Kundrul Lingu in Auvergne. After completing his last retreat in 2011.
years, he lives as a non-ordained practitioner near the Buddhist center, he continues
continuous practice and gives numerous lectures on Buddhist teachings and practices as well as
meditation retreats in France and Europe.

About the course…
The theme of the meditation retreat led by Drupla Valentin is mental calmness
(Shine). Study sessions and meditation sessions will alternate. This is a continuation of the course from
last year. New participants are also welcome. Valentin is in his
lectures he relies on the text “Distinguishing the middle from the extremes” by Maitreya, which
Shamar Rimpoche explained in his work “In the Heart of Wisdom”.

The lessons given will present the structure, phases and methods for applying the practice. Guided
exercises and exchanges about what happens in meditation will serve to integrate the methods.
“Practicing mental stillness aims to train the mind to let go of its badness.”
the habit of being constantly occupied and the resulting confusion. This is similar
taming the wild horse. With this training, your mind will free itself
too busy.
The regular practice of shina meditation therefore trains your mind to become stable.
The stability of your meditation track will depend on your diligence. If you maintain a regular
the practice of Shina, a state of mental calmness will become your nature. This condition is not
something new that is added to the mind. Thanks to an advanced form of splint practice,
you will create an “unfettered” peace of mind, an open mind that serves as a basis for achievement
realization of emptiness. » (Shamar Rimpoche)

Good mental peace is very beneficial, both for the body and the mind. Mentally and physically
we experience a feeling of lightness and well-being. In all our activities, peace of mind
it also gives us a much clearer and more precise perception of situations, the ability to
be more measured in our thinking and more efficient in our actions.
In the context of dharma, especially, mental peace allows us to perform better
practices that require the participation of the body or speech, such as prostrations or recitation
mantras and to have more benefits from them and also to give more precision and
stability with visualizations.
Finally, mental peace is the foundation upon which primordial wisdom will develop
[wisdom, jnana, sherap] arising from higher insight [insight, lhaktong, vipasana],
introducing us to the knowledge of the nature of the mind, culminating in Buddhahood. All these qualities
arise from mental peace.
This retreat is as suitable for motivated beginners as it is for the experienced
practitioners.
